SIMON STARLING (ranking on artfacts: 191) was born in 1967 in Epsom England and is a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, he was the recipient of the coveted Turner Prize in 2005 and was shortlisted for the Hugo Boss Prize in 2004. He currently lives in Berlin and is Professor of Fine Arts at the Staedelschule, in Frankfurt Germany. He has exhibited widely including the Biennial de Sao Paulo and the Busan Biennal in 2004 and he represented Scotland at the Venice Biennial in 2003. He exhibited in the international exhibition at the Venice Biennial in 2009.

The installations of Simon Starling deal with natural and cultural processes of transformation. Each installation develops from a series of mental and practical steps that recall an experimental setup and at the same time describe a metamorphosis. The objects in space and the artist’s comments on their history constitute a unity. From the outset, the subject of Simon Starling’s work has been the labour expended to produce it. He displays the end result of carefully planned processes, and although the viewer only sees a reconstructed object, they are encouraged to consider the story behind its construction and transformation.

In Ladonia Biennial Simon Starling has made a new version of his project ("Swiss Connection”) from 2005: By night the Swiss buy... (The whole title will appear in the video).
